The program uses 3 EXE files for building vpk, for extracting the scripts file and to format it.
Make sure you whitelist to your antivirus/firewall every EXE file in the folder.

Stuck at 'Guessing Language' or 'Checking Version' ¶
I have noticed that other mods programs are hacking your PC and they disable dota2mods.com domains. To fix this follow these steps:
- go to C:WindowsSystem32driversetc
- open 'hosts' file with Notepad or Notepad++
- look for 'dota2mods.com', 'dota2mods.ru' and 'dota2mods.cn' and delete those lines
- save the file and restart the program
Note: What they are doing is a hack, they are modifying your WINDOWS files without your permission. And who knows what other files they may modify. Be careful!

- Let it update again
- Close dota2mods program
- Open dota2mods program
- Go to Settings and click 'Refresh Scripts'
- Save mods

This happens often when Compendium is introduced or is updated.

This could be because the program doesn't have write permissions to Dota folder. The program will overwrite a file from Dota and create a new folder and copy files there (the mods vpk file).
This is most likely cause by Windows UAC.

This is most likely from your PC, it's blocking the connection to my server. Please check your antivirus or firewall.

- close the program
- open it again and press F12 real fast
- a window will open, go to Console tab
- make a screenshot and send it to me at

- download this archive mods-list.zip
- extract it and copy the files to <dotamodsinstaller path>resourcesjson and replace the existing files.
- go to <dotamodsinstaller path>resourcesconfig and open in notepad 'general.json'
- change 'db_version':' to 'db_version':'49'

Try to extract again the .zip archive. I noticed in some cases not all the folders are created when extracting, not sure when and how.
'Save Mods' frozen at x% ¶
This may happen from time to time since I'm always updating and adding new mods and I can make mistakes. But don't worry, I can fix them. Follow these steps:
- GO TO SETTINGS -> REFRESH SCRIPTS
If this doesn't work, do the following:
- close the program and open it again
- go to Settings
- turn Debug Mode -> ON
- click Save Mods
- after it gets stuck go to <dotamodsinstaller path>resources and look for log.txt
- send log.txt to me at

Can't update from version 3.0.7 or below to current version ¶
There was a bug with the auto-update system, where if you skipped a version it would break and you could update.
For example if you had version 3.0.6 and you didn't use it for some time, and version 3.0.8 came out, you couldn't make the update because the program would break.
There is no way of fixing this (sorry about that) so you have to redownload it.

Mod is missing or is buggy - List of known issues¶
There a few mods (items/sets, whatever you want to call them) that I haven't added because they were too buggy. Also some of the existing ones are buggy.
Here's a list of the known buggy and missing items:
- Legion Commander's Legacy of the Fallen Legion - animation not working properly
- Pudge's Ripper's Reel - animation not working properly
- Tiny's Crystal Dryad - not working properly/missing
- Undying's Grim Reformation - flesh golem is missing some particles
- Zeus' Righteous Thunderbolt - missing
- Lifestealer's Profane Union - not working properly
Here's a list of the known buggy and missing items:
- Legion Commander's Legacy of the Fallen Legion - animation not working properly
