For Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon on the PC, a GameFAQs message board topic titled 'For some reason, sprint has stopped working.'

I really love the Far Cry games; with amazing graphics and an immersive storyline they've provided me with countless hours of fun. Far Cry 4 however has been a terrible disappointment; the disgusting mouse smoothing they've decided to implement in the PC version led me to closing the game after the first 20 minutes.

Not wishing to abandon my plans to spend the Sunday exploring Kyrat, I've trawled the XML files and have managed to find something resembling a fix. It's not the most elegant or simplistic of solutions, but for those like me who find this game totally unplayable due to the mouse issues it should be worth the 10 or so minutes it takes to do.

Step 1:

Download the unpacker tool for the Dunia 2 .dat files from http://www.nexusmods.com/farcry3/mods/5/

Working

Step 2:

Extract the contents of the archive to any directory you want; for simplicity just drag and drop the 'bin' directory to your desktop.

Step 3:

Navigate to your Far Cry 4 installation directory and then to the data_win32 subdirectory.

Step 4:

Make sure you have the directory with Gibbed's unpacker tools open in another explorer window, then drag and drop patch.dat from the data_win32 folder onto 'Gibbed.Dunia2.Unpack.exe' that should be located in the /bin/ directory you extracted earlier. It should take about a minute to unpack all the files.

Step 5:

Next, navigate to the newly created patch_unpack directory in the data_win32 folder, and from there into _UNKNOWNmisc folder. You should see a bunch of .rml and .xml files. The file we want is named 4881E4C778199500.xml, if you can't see it at first glance just c&p the name into the search box in the top right of your explorer window and it should come up.

Once you've found it open the file in your favourite text editor. Notepad should suffice for this, though if you don't already use it I recommend Notepad++ or Sublime Text 3.

Step 6:

Hit CTRL+F and search for the line:

You should reach a block of XML like this:

Simply delete the curve attribute on each of the Input nodes of the Binding so it looks like this:

Next, search for the line:

Repeat as above, changing:

To:

Step 7:

There's one more file left we need to change to properly fix the mouse issues. Navigate to patch_unpackactionmapsinputactionmapcommon.xml and once again open the file in a text editor.

CTRL+F for the line:

And change to:

Change the line directly under it:

To:

Step 7:

Once you've made the edits, save the file and close your editor. Navigate back to your data_win32 folder and drag and drop the patch_unpack directory onto 'Gibbed.Dunia2.Pack.exe', again located in the /bin/ directory.

Step 8:

There should be two new files created in your data_win32 directory named 'patch_unpack.dat' and 'patch_unpack.fat'. Before we rename these, find the original 'patch.dat' and 'patch.fat' files and rename them to 'patch.dat.bak' and 'patch.fat.bak' respectively, so you have the original copies if required. Finally rename both of the 'patch_unpack' files to simply 'patch', keeping the extensions the same.

Step 9:

Assuming you haven't done so already, navigate to '%userprofile%DocumentsMy GamesFar Cry 4GamerProfile.xml' and ensure that MouseAcceleration, MouseAccelerationOn, UseMouseSmooth, Smoothness, and Smoothness_Ironsight are all set to 0.

I'm not sure it's completely 1:1 but it's an improvement and makes the game playable. Beware however this will likely cause some issues with the multiplayer features as the file checksums will be altered, so if you plan on taking advantage of those features I don't think this fix is for you. Other than that, let me know if this works for you!

Edit

Some people have been reporting various issues. Firstly ensure that both the Packer and Unpacker are running as administrator by right clicking, selecting Properties, navigating to the Compatibility tab and checking the checkbox that says 'Run this program as administrator'.

If the program crashes while trying to extract the file: Put the packer tools in a folder at the root of your C: drive, and copy the patch.dat and patch.fat from your data_win32 directory to there. Follow the steps as normal and then copy the files back to data_win32 before renaming.

Windows

If you get no keyboard/mouse response upon launching the game you most likely made a bad edit, so double check to make sure your edits are verbatim with those above. Ubisoft bucharest salary.
